Google Maps Receives Major Update on Galaxy Watch 4 & Watch 5

Recently, Google updated its Google Maps app for Wear OS watches with essential changes. Again in the new month, it has released a new app update for the smartwatches. In the new version, users can now view turn-by-turn navigation on an always-on display. It will be beneficial for most users as they don’t have to turn on the screen to see directions. The release note mentions the new feature will work with Wear OS 3 and above version.

The users of Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, Google Pixel Watch, Fossil Gen 6 Special Edition, and other watches running on Wear OS 3 firmware can use it. To use the service, you have to start the navigation on your smartwatch.

After that, you will see the navigation service on the same screen. Now tap on it to activate it, and now you are ready to view the live navigation on an AOD screen. On the screen, it will only show basic information, and again you can tap on it to get more details about your journey.

Further, the change has come to watch-only mode. As we know, Google has recently introduced this function so users can use maps without their phones. Now, the company has changed its name to ‘Mirroring’. There is nothing changed but only the name, so don’t be confused.

It is a server-side update, and you don’t have to update the Google Maps app from Play Store. You will notice the change once it hits your watch. The new features may not come to older watches with Wear OS 2 software.
